Relief

I came to Bombay yesterday on a bus.
It was an uncomfortable journey, I was freezing all night and was feeling creeped out by the co-passengers. I think I barely slept for 15 mins at a stretch and time moved ever so slowly.
The sunrise at 7 am came as a relief.

Rice fields

Bus ride from Siem Reap to Poipet border in Cambodia, on my way to Bangkok. My co-passengers were a young thai girl and an old Russian man on their way to Pataya. They were eating sweet mangoes which was making me very nauseous. Somewhere half way there, a woman started screaming "Tuk-Tuk - Hospital - Stop - My husband - He is dead" I froze. I saw two seats ahead of me a man was lying lifeless, his woman hysterical - unwilling to touch him. There was a doctor on borad who revived him. "He has suffered a minor stroke, but is stable" she declared. After sometime, we were on our way again.

My Bus

Waiting for a bus in the evening in Yelahanka New Town. Houses stacked, all pink and yellow. Put in by the plateau into neat filmic arrangements. Kids play in the field. The air is cold but the sky is bright. All things weigh less in situations such as this.

The 401s always arrive with a purpose. They are full of people. They are the most frequented. They are the most sought after. My bus is usually going someplace less frequented, expensive. So that when it curves into the bus stand (like a coin on the floor coming to rest) it is either empty or full from collecting stray passengers like me who have been waiting for long times.

You shyly move forward and ask, "Shivajinagar?". Then you either get in or you don't.
